SPECTRUM NEWS & UPDATES

OUR SPECIAL EDITION CHRISTMAS 2008 NEWSLETTER NOW ONLINE
This Christmas holiday will be rougher than normal this year ... please take a moment to read this newsletter and learn more about Christmas in Tijuana.

Spectrum Ministries has three basic areas on which we focus.

  1. OUR FIRST (AND MOST IMPORTANT) FOCUS IS ... TIJUANA, MEXICO.

    • HUMANITARIAN:

Every Thursday and two Saturdays a month we are in the back hills of Tijuana to minister to the very poor families and children in seven areas including the Tijuana dump. This is a simple humanitarian effort. We are concerned for the health of the children and their schooling. We are concerned with housing and food. We work within the political perimeters of each community we serve and we work by their invitation. U.S. groups are encouraged to help us in this area of ministry.

    • KID'S CLUBS:

We work with a religious agenda in mind. In addition to our two large workday programs a week we have weekly Bible clubs in several of our larger areas. We work in concert with churches in these areas. We have a large Mexican teen following. We train these teens and help them in their schooling. They are encouraged to go to church. Our teens work along side of us as we minister in Mexico. Aaron has several teen discipleship groups.

    • STREET KIDS:

We work actively with the various gangs in our neighborhoods, street teens on drugs and the younger street kids. We coordinate with several rehabilitation efforts.

    • JAIL:

We work on a weekly bases in the Tijuana Youth Rehabilitation Center or "children's jail"; preaching, fun activities, video and counseling are part of our ministry there.

    • ORPHANAGES:

We actively network with three Tijuana orphanages Emmanuel Orphanages, El Pozo and Casa de Emmanuel.

    • CAMPS:

Camps, too, are part of our ministry. We hold several camps each year for our Mexican children and teens.

  2. OUR SECOND FOCUS IS ... CHALLENGING U.S.TEENAGERS.

We invite a variety of people to come with us as we minister in Mexico. Children, adults, families but mostly teen groups. Teens have come from all over the United states and Canada to venture across the border with us. We give a brief acculturation before they leave with us for the day. Our agenda becomes taking them out of their world and into the third world. It's in this environment that effective teaching can be done. On these workdays, the kids are out of their element and open to teaching. At this point, we challenge them to (1) reevaluate their values and (2) make a difference in their world. We even ask them to consider being missionaries. If nothing more, they return home very thankful and appreciative for what they have.

  3. OUR THIRD FOCUS IS ... SPEAKING IN THE UNITED STATES AND OVERSEAS.

Aaron and several of our staff are available and qualified to speak to adults and teens in missions conferences, camps, retreats and schools. We see this both as an opportunity to inform people about our ministry in Tijuana and challenge teens to consider missions as a career.

NOTE: Understandably, we are reluctant to take on additional responsibilities outside our ministry. Because we work in Mexico, people sometimes write and call, asking us to do them a favor. We love to do favors, but we simply don't have the time and gas to extend beyond our ministry obligations
